I met someone very lovely not so long ago and, shortly after, she moved into a new place. So I thought I'd make her a present. She likes her horror so I thought I'd do her a nice haunted house. Then I remembered she had recently bought something with Moomins on it, so decided to make a Moomintroll the subject.
This is probably by far the quickest painting I've ever done - it took an afternoon and evening.
For a start, I've finally learnt that if I want a light foreground on a dark background, I should paint the foreground first, and then the background around it. That way, I don't have to paint layer after layer to stop the background colour coming through.
This is also the first time I've used canvas board instead of a normal canvas, so I had to go on a hunt for a good quality but fairly plain frame to put it in. This was harder than you'd think, but I eventually managed to get one in Paperchase.
